SO HOT right now: Bicycle Prints

Bicycle prints, bicycle accents, bicycle accessories, you name it! I recall Jennie telling me back in October that she was seeing this print everywhere she turned. It wasn’t until now when I noticed that stores are carrying this spring print in all sorts of items. Check out some of Jennie Kay’s top bicycle picks!

To Try: Dermalash Mascara

Always on the hunt for the perfect mascara? Dermaquest Dermalash Mascara is one of the few mascaras I’ve seen (since Maybelline’s coveted, and discontinued, comb wand back in 2005!) with this thin wand and comb like prongs that hold the mascara. An affordable price, between the designer lines and drugstore lines, at $35 you receive a tube full of peptides that aid in producing fuller, non-clumping lashes.

The ingredients in the mascara are natural, mineral pigmented, and it strengthens rather than irritates and weakens delicate lashes. What I like most about the ingredient formulation, is that ingredient number 1 is “water”, and several other naturally derived ingredients and formulations. Apply 1 or several coats to achieve the perfect look. The product above is shown in black, however, it is also featured in a rich brown color that looks great on blondes or brunettes for a more natural look!

SO HOT right now: Mirrored Sunglasses

We are seeing this trend everywhere: runways, street fashion, magazines, blogs, you name it; we love it. A bold statement, with little effort, and a handful (to a wallet-full) of cash can score you a pair of reflective, mirror like sunglasses such as these.

The most popular amongst the internet and fashion world appear to be the classic Ray Ban aviator, with a trendy twist; a colored, reflective-mirrored lens.

We love the trend, do you?

Stylefile: Double Cuff Trend

Whether you’ve heard of this trend…rocking runways & street fashion at the moment or not, you’re in for a surprise.
This trend is spot on & we’re not sure why it hasn’t been adopted by stylespotters and trendsetters more often! The Double Cuff trend by some may seem silly — purchase two of the same bracelet? Isn’t that redundant and a waste? Absolutely not.

Photos: www.chickinthekitch.com www.whitneyport.celebuzz.com www.fashion-gourment.blogspot

The double cuffs create unity amongst an outfit. No matter how wild & crazy, or plain & simple your outfit is, it creates a balance that is both simple to achieve & fun to play around with. Wear two of the complete same wrist cuffs, or try different colored cuffs in the same style. Make it your own!

Jennie Kay is wearing cuffs from Francesca’s Collections boutique in Newport, RI.

These cuffs are both trendy & wallet friendly. Seen above, though the colors seen on these cuffs are different, the gold & orange come together beautifully to create a fashion forward and unique look to an otherwise basic outfit.

Oh yes… & did we mention…Miss Jennie is 9 months preggo–how’s this for a stylish mama with a fabulous glow?! :)

We’d say this trend is on point for Spring/Fall 2013!
So go ahead, what are you waiting for? Buy arm decor in pairs!

Style File: Tulle Skirts

In the midst of Spring fever, Jennie Kay & Erin McGinn collaborated for another installment of the Style File. This time, featuring a fabulous Tulle Skirt created by Tutu Cute & Co.
Our inspiration?
Well first off, the amazing tulle skirt, a bit of Carrie Bradshaw, cupcakes, ice cream sundae’s, glitter, jewels, & of course fun yet wearable hair & makeup.

We ventured down to Bowen’s Wharf in Newport…

…besides our weather forecast hiccup–sunny, windy, high of 38* (not very tutu friendly!) we decided to go somewhere sweet, warm, & with fabulous light!
One of the fabulous shops on Bowen’s Wharf.

Glitter Platforms by ALDO

Jennie Kay applied laura mercier radiance primer, Makeup Forever Mat Velvet foundation, and  Tarte Cheek Stain in Flush  to Stephanie’s face.

A pink & gold glitter gel manicure by the island favorite ‘Star Nails’

A hint of gold glitter liner from MAC Cosmetics atop a black cake liner from Illamasqua to creates a luminary effect on the eye finishing the lips with  Stila color balm lipstick in Betsey.

We then decided to head over to the Brick Alley Pub for some snacks, of course…

Stila’s lipcolor in Betsey withstood 2 helpings of ice cream and sorbet … a true test in my book!

Oh and by the way, we highly suggest heading over to the Brick Alley Pub for dessert … the sorbet & sundae’s are no joke! :)

Giveaway: Greenlion Design

We are SO excited to announce our giveaway this week with Greenlion Floral & Event Design.

Greenlion is an exquisite garden and wedding floral design company located on Bellevue Avenue (by appointment only) in the heart of Newport, RI.

What makes Greenlion different? Their use of local cut florals, organic gardening, and overall organic floral stylings. Owners Kim Lamothe & Christopher Moon (and their two adorable labs!), take pride in quality products.  In viewing some of Greenlion’s work, you can see a definite difference in the quality of their products; their flowers, arrangements, and designs are absolutely stunning; Greenlion florals are statement pieces in their own right. They carry a wide variety of organic florals — some of which I have never even seen before. Classic flowers, elegant flowers, exotic flowers, and even the most simple of flowers, are instantly transformed in their centerpieces, bouquets and arrangements. If you are looking for true fairytale flowers on your big day — or even for any ordinary day!!–, created by a pair of dedicated and creative individuals who stand behind sustainable and local products, Greenlion is an excellent choice.

Jennie Kay Beauty has teamed up with Greenlion designs to offer our fans the chance to win this amazing miniature terrarium. What is a terrarium you ask? A garden that fits in the palm of your hand…it’s absolutely adorable!
According to owner Kim Lamothe, “The mini terrariums are beyond easy. Hang them in a sunny window, preferably east or west, south is a little too much, mist with water once a week or so, thats it, when happy, they start to grow out of the small hole in the dome, super cool! Especially great in a bathroom, then you do not have to water them at all, they do great with all the humidity from showers. “ …these are especially great for those of us who lack a green thumb :)

Just when you thought Kate Spade couldn’t get any better…

They’ve done it again. Kate Spade has recently launched their new brand ‘Saturday’ to the general public and we couldn’t be more excited. They feature products such as home & entertainment goods, travel accessories, clothing, shoes, jewels, sunglasses — you name it. Their products are just as fabulous, but with an even more fabulous price range; much more affordable for the everyday chick.

There is definitely a minimal range of colors and patterns at the moment, but we cant wait to see what else Saturday has in store as the brand expands!

Fabulous Kate Spade Saturday Necklace

One of the most exciting news (except for the fact that we can now buy fabulous items whenever we want without breaking the bank) but they have created a portion of the site where you are able to design your own weekender bag. This project was so fun to create. For the upper $200 range, you can color coordinate, personalize, and design your canvas bag in fabulous colors. I know what I’ll be putting on my Christmas list to my guy this year!! Check out my weekender!

Saturday also gives you the option to be surprised; you are able to click the ‘surprise me’ button to reveal various color combinations if you’re unable to make such a difficult decision :)

How fabulous is this new brand of Kate Spade?!

Jennie Kay Spring Makeup Shoot

By popular demand, we recently produced a photoshoot that showcased six of the most popularly requested makeup-looks, for both day and night. These looks are quite simple to achieve and can be a staple to any outfit or look.

Here are our favorite six go-to makeup looks of the moment:

Note: Livia’s face was prepped and primed with Laura Mercier primer, then we applied Armani Silk Foundation followed by  Stila all over shimmer liquid luminizer in kitten shimmer above her cheek bones and on her brow bone to highlight her beautiful features. Her brows were filled in with Givenchy Eyebrow Show Powdery Eyebrow Pencil in Brunette

To achieve this look: Start with a clean, makeup free face. Prep and prime, and apply foundation as usual. Dust MACPrism’ blush on apples of cheeks and blend into hairline softly.  Jennie Kay used MAC Subculture lipliner, followed by Makeup Forever Nude lip color in ‘N23‘. Apply a coat or two of your favorite mascara; used here, Maybelline Falsies in Blackest Black

To achieve this look: Start with a clean, makeup free face. Prep and prime, and apply foundation as usual. Making a ‘kiss face’, dust MAC Fleur Power to apples of cheeks, contouring along your cheek bone, blending outward but not exceeding the cheek bones. Apply a coat or two of mascara, used here, Maybelline Falsies mascara in Blackest Black. Using a lip blush, apply Stila lip color in Betsey, for a fun and flirty dimension to your look.

To achieve this look: Start with a clean, makeup free face. Prep and prime, and apply foundation as usual. Dust MAC Dame’ on the cheeks for a blushed look. Apply a coat or two of mascara, used here, Maybelline Falsies mascara in Blackest Black. Using a lip blush, apply NARSCruella‘ to the lips.

To achieve this look: Start with a clean, makeup free face. Prep and prime, and apply foundation as usual. This look is the same as above, however, we added a new dimension with a winged wedge liner. We used Jennie Kay Beauty Brand Cake wedge liner, and NARS ‘Cruella‘ on her lips. This liner adds instant drama to her eyes, balancing with her dramatic red lip. Be bold and wear this as a casual day look, or wear as a fun nighttime look that calls attention to the eyes and lips.

To achieve this look: Start with a clean, makeup free face. Prep and prime, and apply foundation as usual. Jennie Kay used Makeup Forever Aqua Cream base in ‘N23′. She then applied and smudged Jennie Kay Brand Cake eyeliner to Livia’s top and bottom lid. Using the Makeup ForeverTechnicolor Palate’ Black, she applied and blended just below her outer brow bone, creating a subdued and traditional smokey eye.

To achieve this look: Start with a clean, makeup free face. Prep and prime, and apply foundation as usual. Jennie Kay used the Makeup Forever Aqua Cream as a base in ‘#15′ Taupe. Livia was bronzed using a favorite of the beauty parlour, Too FacedAqua Bunny’ bronzer. Jennie Kay then applied Stila ‘Convertible Color’ in Stone on the lids, top and bottom. Tarte  Amazonian Clay 12h Blush was dusted to her cheeks in ‘Tipsy’. Finally, the look was finished with Jennie Kay Brand lipgloss in ‘Hello Dolly‘.

These looks are extremely convertible, wear one look during the day and add a dramatic liner and lip to create a night look! We hope you love this shoot as much as we did!

Unique Bridal Veils

Today I stumbled across some of the most unique, delicate, and vintage-y bridal veils and headpieces on Etsy. I’m telling you, Etsy is one of the *best* places to find bridal accessories, gifts, accents, etcetera … I’ll say it once & I’ll say it again.

These veils by Melinda Rose Design are handcrafted and breathtaking. To me, there is nothing more appreciated and respected than items today that are handmade and one of a kind … as it is quite a hard thing to come by. Have a look at these stunning, vintage style bridal veils from Melinda Rose Design. They are even quite affordable.

Left: a bonnet-style lace and flowered head veil. Top Right: A very unique cape-style veil with intricate dot embellishments. Bottom Right: For the girly girl, a touch of netting with a white silk bow.

Jennie Kay brides, brides to be, or bridal party members — definitely recommend Etsy to your loved ones as a go-to in finding wedding must-haves!
