SO HOT right now: Bicycle Prints

Bicycle prints, bicycle accents, bicycle accessories, you name it! I recall Jennie telling me back in October that she was seeing this print everywhere she turned. It wasn’t until now when I noticed that stores are carrying this spring print in all sorts of items. Check out some of Jennie Kay’s top bicycle picks!

SO HOT right now: Mirrored Sunglasses

We are seeing this trend everywhere: runways, street fashion, magazines, blogs, you name it; we love it. A bold statement, with little effort, and a handful (to a wallet-full) of cash can score you a pair of reflective, mirror like sunglasses such as these.

The most popular amongst the internet and fashion world appear to be the classic Ray Ban aviator, with a trendy twist; a colored, reflective-mirrored lens.

We love the trend, do you?

Stylefile: Double Cuff Trend

Whether you’ve heard of this trend…rocking runways & street fashion at the moment or not, you’re in for a surprise.
This trend is spot on & we’re not sure why it hasn’t been adopted by stylespotters and trendsetters more often! The Double Cuff trend by some may seem silly — purchase two of the same bracelet? Isn’t that redundant and a waste? Absolutely not.

Photos: www.chickinthekitch.com www.whitneyport.celebuzz.com www.fashion-gourment.blogspot

The double cuffs create unity amongst an outfit. No matter how wild & crazy, or plain & simple your outfit is, it creates a balance that is both simple to achieve & fun to play around with. Wear two of the complete same wrist cuffs, or try different colored cuffs in the same style. Make it your own!

Jennie Kay is wearing cuffs from Francesca’s Collections boutique in Newport, RI.

These cuffs are both trendy & wallet friendly. Seen above, though the colors seen on these cuffs are different, the gold & orange come together beautifully to create a fashion forward and unique look to an otherwise basic outfit.

Oh yes… & did we mention…Miss Jennie is 9 months preggo–how’s this for a stylish mama with a fabulous glow?! :)

We’d say this trend is on point for Spring/Fall 2013!
So go ahead, what are you waiting for? Buy arm decor in pairs!

Growing out your Bangs in Style!

So you did it!  You cut your bangs and you LOVED them. Now, you are so over them! So how do you camouflage your grown out, awkward length, tresses in style? Jennie Kay has the how-to tips for you. This one is obvious but needs to be said… Grab a headband and cover those bad boys up! We have two options with a head band: 1. Pull you hair straight back 2. Split your  bangs down the center & apply a bit of pomade to keep them down {Flexwax from Schwarzkopf is my favorite} This second look also gives a bohemian style with the headband slightly around your forehead

  1. hide your bangsPictures above from www.nordstrom.com and www.freepeople.com
  2. Braid your bangs out of your face. You can braid them across your crown or just braid one side and pin back.Jennifer Aniston Hairstyles
  3. Twist your bangs up and away from your faceHide your bangs
  4. Put your hair in a pony or a sidebraid/fishtail, Tease your bangs at the root with a comb, separate them slightly so they are a bit piecey then hairspray to hold.Tossled Updos
  5. Try a pompadour straight back or slightly to the sidePull your bangs back
  6. Pin it flat to your head, a side part works best with this look.Growing out your bangs
  7. Rope Braid them!Braided BangsNow which way is your favorite?

Trend Alert: Backwards Necklaces

Who said necklaces were to be draped down the front? With more & more backless fashions in the mix today, it’s no wonder designers have decided to reverse jewelry looks as well. We are loving this look. Decorating a perfectly exposed back can be classy, intriguing, and fierce!

The necklace does not have to be a separate piece either; more designers are adding jewelry to the backs of the clothing, making it appear as though you have draped them over your outfit yourself. The backwards necklace was an especially prominent look at this years Oscars.

Anne Hathaway & Jennifer Lawrence 2013 Oscars

The look can be found on dresses, tee shirts, tank tops, wedding gowns, etcetera. The look from the front is often basic, simple, nothing out of the ordinary, however, when you turn around you reveal a completely unexpected and sparkling look.

Holy Tuxedo!

HOLY TUXEDO!

One of the hottest trends to hit the runways and streets this season is the tuxedo pant. This versaitle trend features a refined street-chic yet a reformed look that can be worn nearly anywhere, anytime.

Whether you choose to wear the entire suit look — pants and jacket– or one or the other, these two items can transform your look completely. Throw in a pair of black stilettos and you’re golden.

They come in styles such as an ankle-hugging cigarette style, a flared bell bottom, wide leg, and more. As well as various textures and fabrics – leather and silk stripes, as well as cotton, silk, linen, denim, velvet, leather and more.

We love the romantic and androgynous look of the tuxedo pant. Designers have incorporated the seasons hottest prints and colors into the look as well, making it bolder and more statement-making then ever. Take a  look at some of our favorites:

There are LITERALLY so many ways to wear this look – pair with shorts, dresses, skirts, you name it. Throw on a tuxedo jacket and look superbly polished and fashionable — just how we like it

Happy 2013!

To all of our Jennie Kay a Beauty Parlour fans, brides & blog readers — Happy New Year!

A new year is the perfect time to try new things, to laugh more, to be kinder to everyone you meet, and to become a healthier and smarter version of yourself.

Here are some of our tips to starting this new year off right, beginning with yourself:

*APPRECIATE & Drink LOTS of water: We don’t appreciate water nearly as much as we should ; drink it throughout your day. Water is an essential part of maintaining a healthy body and mind. It cleanses and detoxes your organs, aids in a flawless complexion, and keeps you alive.

* EAT HEALTHY: Stay away from processed foods and beverages. As much as they taste delicious, your body will hate you for it later. Natural foods free of processing and preservatives keep your system running smoothly. Sure, we all cheat from time to time, but try to make healthy eating a lifestyle.

* Need a little change? Try a new HAIR CUT or COLOR: You wouldn’t believe the difference a little change in your haircut and color can have on your mood. Add some highlights to frame and lighten your face, make your eyes pop and your skin sparkle.

* FEEL BEAUTIFUL: Treat yourself to a facial or massage to start off 2013 feeling your best. There are great places on the island to visit for these treats: The Apothecary Newport, The Hotel Viking, SPAVANA  to name a few.

* Changing Jobs? Have a big interview?: Treat yourself to a new outfit, one that makes you feel and look your best. Even a new necklace or pair of shoes can change your entire mood when going into an important meeting or interview; you will ooze confidence.

* WORKOUT: You don’t need to become a gym rat. Fitting in 20 minutes of cardio or upping the amount of movement you do in a typical day can change the way you look and feel. Buy a new pair of exercise pants, or new sneakers to up your motivation. Changing your routine the slightest bit can do wonders. Check out this post by Melissa Gardner on how to make time to exercise, even just a little!

Don’t set unrealistic goals.
Take one day at a time, appreciate all that you have.
Look at things through someone elses’ eyes.
& Don’t strive for perfection, strive to do better.

We hope that 2013 brings nothing but peace, success, happiness and of course beauty to all!

To our 2013 Brides: We wish you love & happiness, we can’t wait to work with you on your special day! :)

Happy New Year!
