For the love of…Caviar

So since we’re on the roll of showing you guys some bright and outrageous trends of the spring and summer, we figured we’d share one of the most recent; the caviar manicure. Now we know what you may be thinking, fish eggs?! nails?!

Featured: Ciate Caviar Mani Kit

The caviar mani is named because it is a process of polishing your nails and adding micro-beads to your wet nail, thus giving the appearance of a caviar, textured layer across your nails.

Currently, the caviar nail kits run for around $25 and was brought to Sephora last month, however, they’ve run low on stock and it’s become quite hard to find.

Because we love our blog followers, we’ve decided to share a little secret with you guys on how to DIY caviar mani for a fraction of the price!

All you’ll need:

* Martha Stewart Microbeads (can be found at your local Michael’s Craft) — there is also a brand called “Reflections” which has these microbeads as well!

* Your favorite colored polish — either a complimenting color, matching color, or something completely random depending on the look you’re going for

* Clear Top coat

* A tray/bowl- to catch the excess beads

The process is simple:

Please note, for this caviar method, you will do each nail through the process one at a time.

1st: Place one coat of colored polish on all ten of your fingers. This will serve as a base coat for your second coat of color

2nd: One finger at a time, polish a second coat of polish.

3rd: On that same polished finger, hold it over the tray or bowl and gently sprinkle and coat the nail with microbeads.

4th: After coating nail with beads, gently push down on the beads to form a uniform and flattened surface and to ensure a better stick of the beads to the nail.

5th: Take a top coat and simply add it to just the tip/edge of the top of your nail to prevent chipping.

6th: Repeat for the rest of your fingers!

Voila! You have an expensive looking but cheap caviar mani! :)

Be sure to pour the excess beads from the bowl back into your container to use again. You can also use the caviar mani to accent your current manicure by doing it to your ring finger on each hand.

We love this trend :)

Dip Dyed Fashion?!

To follow up with the recent ombre and dip dyed hair trend, we are seeing more of this trend in fashion as well.

Think dip-dyed clothing, and manicures. Slightly reminiscent of acid-wash jeans of the 80s…with a modern, punk-glam, or even chic look.

Some more drastic than others…

Would you incorporate a dip dyed piece into your closet or your manicure regimen??

Balayage & Ombre

Though it’s not a new trend, we have received a lot of requests by our clients to talk about this recurring technique. Balayage and Ombre highlights are a great way to achieve an effortless and tousled look.  The Ombre technique typically features a darker, thicker root, with a lighter colored end. The Balayage technique is a chunkier, all over beachy look. Are you a low-maintenance hair kind of girl? This coloring could be the perfect fit for you.

It is bohemian-chic, that appears to have a natural and controlled grown-out look. Celebrities such as Jessica Biel, Hillary Duff, Whitney Port, Giselle Bunchden, Jennifer Aniston, and more. The color is painted on by hand, giving it a natural look with a pop of color at the ends surrounding the face. The beauty of balayage is that it is customized to each person, their hair, and face shape, so no one person has the same look as another.

Lucky for you girls, we happen to do balayage and ombre techniques here at Jennie Kay a Beauty Parlour!

Call the beauty parlour or visit our website www.jenniekaybeauty.com to book your next ombre/balayage appointment!

Oxfords

A Fall ’11 trend that has carried into the Spring that we love is the oxford shoe. The oxford has been modernized in varieties of a small heel, a ballet flat/slip on version, and a typical flat oxford by various designers. We’ve chosen a few pairs we love

Miu Miu Oxford $595 ; Jeffrey Campbell Heeled Oxford$119 ; B.P. Ballet Flat Oxford $59 - All from nordstrom.com

Joie 'Hello Goodbye' Wedge Oxford $119 - piperlime.com ; JCrew 'Eddie' Patent Oxford $149 jcrew.com; DV Dolce Vita 'Marcel' Suede Oxford $69 bloomingdales.com

These can easily be casually incorporated for a very laid back look, with a tee shirt and jeans — or shorts, or be dressed up with a pair of ankle-tucked black pants–or shorts, and a dress top.

Emily of 'Cupcakes and Cashmere' Nails the dressed up Oxford look!

Designers have also created a variety of colors, including neons and brights and metallics, as well as studded and textured details to also modernize the shoe look. So fun!

Orange & Red Lips Are IN

Red lips will never go out of style, and are a true classic in the beauty world. Naturally, an array of red and orange lips are in for spring 2012. Seen on the runways, designers have shown a variety of hues, in matte and glossed looks, that add a fun and romantic pop. Here are some great looks to try:

Confused on how to choose the right red for your skin tone?

Fair/Alabaster- a blue-based coral red looks best on those with fair skin complexion

Medium/Olive- a cranberry, true red looks best on those with medium skin complexion

Brown/Black/Dark- a burgundy or brick red looks best on those with darker skin complexion

Smashbox ‘Be Legendary Lipstick‘ features great options for all of the above skin tones, available at Sephora.com

There are also great and more budget-friendly options in the makeup section by Loreal, Revlon, Maybelline, Milani, etc. available at your local CVS, which can be fun to experiment and play around with as well!

The Art of Mixing Prints

Have any of you been daring enough to try the trend of mixing prints? This seemingly mish-mashed-mix-matched sounding look can actually achieve quite a chic and fashionable look if done correctly.

Rules of thumb?
Although we’re mixing patterns, try and stick within the same family.
Following the color wheel also directs us to which colors can work quite well together. We’ve included a quite simple one, where the colors on either side of one another complement each others tones, as well as those across. Don’t use this as an actual ‘rule‘ per say, rather, play around with the colors, textures and tones.

Some patterns that go great together are:
polka dots & stripes
polka dots with leopard
color blocking & corresponding prints
florals with florals
large florals with leopard… the list is endless!

Here are some fun looks we love!

Left: Polka dots, stripes, matching pink tones, a neutral clutch with gold tones & matching gold accessories.
Top Right: Stripes & Aztec, blacks and whites bring it together, as well as colorful accessories?
Bottom: Ferragamo Spring ’12

Another fun way to spice up your outfit is by adding a bright lip color to highlight the tones in your outfit. A thick cat eye liner can also incorporate a fun mod-look to a polka dot ensemble, or any for that matter.

You can also try this trend in the home, subtlety or more pronounced. The key is the color scheme.

Mixing prints shouldn’t be intimidating, it’s fun, busy, exciting, loud, and yet at the same time it all falls together nicely…
Have you or would any of you try mixing prints? Please Share :)

Tangerine Tango

What better way to channel Summer (with recent 70+ degrees in New England, it happens to be closer than we think!) than with a bright, cheery, loud and playful ensemble or makeup look? A color you’ll see this year worldwide is the Pantone color of the year, ‘Tangerine Tango’. What is a Pantone color of the year? It is a color shade declared by the Pantone company which is mass-adopted by various industries (print, textiles, paint, and etcetera).

Tangerine Tango Fabric Palate

This attention grabbing color is sure to stand out against the rest, offering a wide spectrum of oranges, corals, and subtly neon.

Check out some of the spring runways’ and designers’ use of Tangerine tones!
