To Try: Dermalash Mascara

Always on the hunt for the perfect mascara? Dermaquest Dermalash Mascara is one of the few mascaras I’ve seen (since Maybelline’s coveted, and discontinued, comb wand back in 2005!) with this thin wand and comb like prongs that hold the mascara. An affordable price, between the designer lines and drugstore lines, at $35 you receive a tube full of peptides that aid in producing fuller, non-clumping lashes.

The ingredients in the mascara are natural, mineral pigmented, and it strengthens rather than irritates and weakens delicate lashes. What I like most about the ingredient formulation, is that ingredient number 1 is “water”, and several other naturally derived ingredients and formulations. Apply 1 or several coats to achieve the perfect look. The product above is shown in black, however, it is also featured in a rich brown color that looks great on blondes or brunettes for a more natural look!

To Try: Ageless Derma Makeup

A few years back, mineral makeup became a fad like many other fashion & beauty fads. It seemed as though everone had a Bare Escentuals or Bare Minerals brand makeup product in their cosmetic bags. Many still use it, however, like most fads, it came & went & is harder to find on shelves of drugstores & cosmetic counters. These other mineral makeups had the mineral “names”, and ingredients, however, they did not have benefits like those of Ageless Derma mineral makeup.

Ageless Derma mineral makeup is composed of 100% pure minerals. Scientists have also infused sun protection, and ingredients that promote anti-aging. The products are also paraben free, and due to their natural ingredients (vitamin A, E, & green tea extract), they provide ant-inflammatory properties as well. Oh yes, and did we mention its made in the USA — meaning, less retail markup, faster availability, and close to home manufacturing.

The Ageless Derma makeup line features products such as lipsticks, lipglosses, eyebrow kits, pressed mineral blush, foundation, eyeshadow, mascara & a loose mineral foundation. The best part about their pressed products is that there is zero mess. I know, back when I was using mineral makeup, I left a trail of it on my vanity and sink when using – the powder always went everywhere.

The products are packaged in beautiful black compacts with clear windows so you can see exactly whats inside. The mascara features a simple medium sized brush enabling easy application. Their lipsticks & glosses come in neutral everyday colors that are great for any occasion.

A true benefit of mineral makeup is that it does not contain ingredients that aggravate acne prone or oily skin. Like many of the other Ageless Derma products, they contain ingredients that help skin cell turnover, thus creating a smoother & clearer skin complexion. Definitely take a look at the products that Ageless Derma has to offer!

Dark Under Eye Appearance

Dark circles are often unavoidable for those of us who are always on the go. They can show more so when sleep deprived, exhausted, during the winter months when skin pales, and some of us are even blessed with dark circles even when fully rested and sunkissed!

Ageless Derma Retinol & Vitamin K Eye cream is formulated to diminsh the appearance of dark circles and under-eye puffiness using key ingredients including Retinol (Vitamin A), Vitamin C, E, & K. Vitamin K is known for its healing capabilities and ridding of skin discoloration. Retinol is an advanced form of Vitamin A which allows a faster skin cell regeneration, promotes natural elasticity, and improves texture and appearance. Lastly, Vitamins C&E promote skinn cell turnover, allowing new skin to grow and renew cells naturally. The under eye area is arguably the most delicate and sensitive parts of the face, when applying an eye cream, dab gently (do not rub!) blending under the eye and around the eye socket. This recipe, because it involves retinol has been said to work well in comparison to surgical procedures, and is a fraction of the cost. This mixture and formulation of these key ingredients–both natural, capable, and having properties that also aid in anti-aging– sounds to me like a recipe for success!

As we age, skin thins and blood vessels become more visible, causing a darkened and tired appearance; by applying an undereye cream such as this product by ageless derma, you can target wrinkles, dark circles as well as puffiness. Whether you are 22 or 62, using anti aging products can have a pleasant and lasting effect on your appearance. This product targets wrinkles, circles and puffiness that already exist, or can be used as a preventative method to prevent this from occurring; read more about this product here.

So whether you are young or starting to show signs of aging, using products such as this Ageless Derma Retinol Cream can do nothing but benefit and prepare your skin for the future.

Ageless Derma Stem Cell and Peptide Anti Wrinkle Cream

It seems as though we are all in a race against time, using every product available to help us appear younger and more youthful. We also seek the most affordable, and health-beneficial ways to eliminate the look of ware on our bodies. If you’re like me, you shy away from the thought of needles & harsh surgeries to do so. I’ve had my days in the sun, and yes I’m guilty of skipping the sunscreen. Twenty-somethings are now the youth of anti-aging creams and products, you might as well prepare your skin for the rest of your years at an early age. Ageless Derma is a newer product brand on the market developed by doctors to use some of the already naturally occurring processes ingredients and enzymes in the human body to diminish the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles.

Ageless Derma Stem Cell and Peptide Anti wrinkle cream uses stem cell technology and is made from all-natural and botanical ingredients from nature to produce results. The ingredients in the product improve elasticity and skin tone, reduce the depth of wrinkles, provide nutrients the skin needs to stay and appear youthful, and prevents further UV damage. They also help maintain a desired skin hydration balance, and produce and balance naturally occurring collagen.

I am not one to put chemicals or harmful ingredients in my body; this product is something I’d definitely be willing to try. The product is a mere $65, much less expensive than most anti-wrinkle creams on the market. The ingredients in these products have been featured as the next generation of anti-aging products, with proven positive results in publications such as TIME magazine, fitness magazine, Mayo Clinic, NBC.com, Organic Beauty, Vogue, Instyle, and more. If you’re looking for a gentle yet affective alternative to surgical procedures, while also fighting fine lines and wrinkles, ageless derma seems to be the way to go!

DIY Lip Exfoliant

With these record breaking cold temperatures here in New England, we hope you all are exfoliating and moisturizing DAILY!

The cold and wind can do a number on our hands and faces, especially, since these are the parts that are most often exposed. Apply chapstick and hand and face lotion regularly … you can even use the old-fashioned vaseline application to your hands, tip of your nose, cheeks, lips, chin and forehead to prevent wind burn if you’re especially sensative.

In the meantime, we’ve discovered a great DIY lip exfoliant using products you already have at home:

What you’ll need:

Small container
1 part honey
1 part olive oil
1 part brown sugar

You can make as little or as much as you please. Mix these ingredients together, forming a gritty mixture. Apply liberally to mouth and lip area, rubbing gently in circles to rejuvenate the surface. Wipe away with a moist cloth and apply chapstick or vaseline afterwards to lock in moisture.

You may use this recipe for your body as well. It is a simple and affordable, all natural way to keep your skin healthy and radiant.

DIY Gel Manicure

DIY Gel Manicure … No appointment necessary

Though we all love to treat ourselves to necessary, yes, necessary beauty regimens, often times you will pay a pretty penny to satisfy these needs. In the beauty parlour, we are in love with our nails, manicuring, and long lasting looks that will survive cuts, color appointments, paper filing, and endless wedding-schedule-typing. We also however, are in love with saving money. More money saved = more money to spend! ;)

By now I’m sure you’ve heard of the gel-manicure-gab. The nonstop gushing about how long it lasts, yet goes on just like regular polish. To be honest, though the process is much like a typical mani, it takes longer and can be much harsher on your nails and cuticles. Plus, at $30 + a manicure every 3 weeks, your wallet can take a bit of a beating.

We have discovered the perfect way to get long lasting color without spending $30+ every 3 weeks, without waiting on that uncomfortable salon bench, breathing in those icky-artificial nail fumes, and in the comfort of your home…from your couch. Much more in the style of Jennie Kay Beauty.

What you’ll need:

Nail file
Cuticle Clippers
Cotton Balls
Approx. 2X2 cut pieces of lint free paper towel
Rubbing Alcohol
A nail polish color of your choice (preferably a polish with no built in top coats, or any of that jazz…just plain old color)
A simple UV light (can be purchased at your local beauty store online for cheap)
Sally Hansen Gel Base coat
Sally Hansen Gel Top coat

As in any spa environment, give your hands a good exfoliation, soak, and moisturizing before you begin. This preps your hands & allows you to remove dead skin and file nails properly and efficiently. Plus, it allows you to relax! You wouldn’t believe how much stress we hold in our hands…relax! File your nail to your desired shape, remove any dead skin around your nail beds, gently.

After moisturizing, take a cotton ball and wipe away the surface of each nail with a bit of rubbing alcohol to prep it for polish.

  1. Starting with one hand at a time, apply one coat of the Sally Hansen Gel Base coat to nails. Apply somewhat swiftly and quickly, as it becomes tacky within moments of hitting the air. Place hands in the UV light for 40 seconds, thus setting the base coat.

  2. Apply 1 coat  (2 coats if you are able to make it very thin) of a nail color of your choice. Be sure to apply thin and even coats as to not make the layers of your polish thick and gooey.
  3. Set the nail polish beneath the UV light for 30 seconds.

  4. Apply 1 coat of the Sally Hansen Gel Top coat to nails in a swift and thorough manner, being sure to apply evenly.
  5. Place hand in the UV light and set this final layer for 2 minutes beneath the light.
  6. After polish has set for 2 minutes, take paper towel square, apply rubbing alcohol to it and gently but quickly rub across the surface of each finger nail, removing the tacky top layer of your polish.

  7. Repeat process on your 2nd hand.

Voila! Your hands will be dry, hardened and set, ready to go. This procedure takes all of 15 minutes and will last you over 2 weeks. No chipping or smudging will occur (if you follow the procedure correctly…I have had great results!)

Let us know how your experience with at-home gel manicures went!

We’ve listed the 5 must have items in your clutch for New Years Eve if you did vouch for that 5 X 5 inch gorgeous clutch.

3. Hydrating Lip color : L’oreal Color Riche Balm: The perfect amount of color that provides hydration — comes in a variety of colors from sheer to bold.

4. Perfume Deodorant: Philosophy Amazing Grace: Perfumed deodorant has 2 great properties, it works as an antiperspirant if you’re feeling like you’ve danced your Secret off :) , and you can apply to wrists and neck if your chosen scent has worn off through the night.

5. Bandaids: Stash a bandaid or two in your clutch to aid in the event that you get a pesky blister from those fabulous new heels.

*Other small items that may help: 1 or two dental floss wands, chewing gum or mints, extra bobby pins or hair tie, fashion tape if your dress is giving you trouble :)

5 Beauty Tips

Wouldn’t we all like our daily routines to go somewhat quicker and smoother from time to time? I’ve found myself countless times coming across amazing and sometimes lifesaving beauty tips, yet I always forget to jot them down. I’ve decided to create a list of five of the best, random, and most relatable beauty tips I’ve come across and used that can be a great help when pressed for time. I’m sure I’ll provide more than five more in the near future, but for now, read on.

1. Sleep on your face? Wake up with sheet marks, puffy eyes, unruly brows, and resembling the phantom of the Opera?
Simple. Splash warm water across your face serveral times, followed by several splashes of cold water to soothe irritated skin, seal your pores and wake you up. Blot your face dry, especially your eye area. Use an old (clean!) toothbrush, spray a shot of hairspray on the brush and comb and tame your brows. Eyes being extra stubborn and puffy today? One of the oldest tricks in the books… I kid you not about this one. Hemorrhoid cream. Yes. Hemorrhoid cream! It contains an anti-inflammatory property that can fight puffy eyes. Dab a pea sized amount under your eyes, and even on red blemishes, and voila!

2. Forgot to book your hair color appointment with Jennie Kay Beauty?
No worries, simply call her and make your next apppointment! No, but really :) .  In the meantime, use your finger, or a comb to tousle and zig zag your part. A straight part shows your roots, whereas a zig zagged line disguises them. Another quick fix — find an eye shadow in a color closest to your hair color and brush onto roots, it’ll hold you over if you’re in a pinch.

3. Late for a date, Scaley skin?
To avoid flaky and dry skin, moisturize immediately after showering or bathing. Your pores are open at this time and make it easier to absorb the moisturizer. Face and body included in this.

4. Without nail polish remover?
Swipe a coat of clear over your polished nails and wipe off immediately. This process removes the color beneath as well.

5. I can’t find a bobby pin….again!!
If you’re like me, you’ve been there, dumping everything from your purse to locate the miniscule skeleton of that one bobby pin you knew you threw in your purse. A solution, finally. Throw a magnet into your purse with a few bobby’s stuck on, it’ll make them a wee bit bigger at the bottom of your bag and they’ll all be in one place. Can’t find bobby’s in your vanity? Grab one of those $2 paperclip holders from CVS or Staples, who said office supplies weren’t for beauty supplies? Genius!

Sun Cushion-Trend Alert

I am so JELLY first the Asian skincare market had BB creams and didn’t share now the newest products are Sun Cushions. Asian women do have beautiful skin {so envious!} me want!

A sun Cushion reminds me of the old Stila foundation back in the day called Stila Pivotal Skin Liquid Makeup.{shown below} It was a compact that when you opened it it had a sponge that was built into the compact where a cream or powder would be. and you would us your fingers {or I would} and dab on the sponge to get the foundation out and apply it on your face with your fingers. { it was great for my extra dry  flakey skin hawt huh!}

Well a sun cushion looks very similar but it is an all in one product! And you don’t have to use your fingers they come with an antibacterial sponge {i can think of quite a few products that need this technology} not naming any named…eheeem MAC Blotting Powder

  1. Brightening
  2. UV protection
  3. Makeup
  4. Cooling effect to sooth skin
  5. Sweat-proof & Waterproof
  6. Light weight
  7. Quick application for on the go touchups
  8. Very natural application

Now lets just hope these products will arrive in the US a bit faster than the BB Creams because I’m dying to get my mitts on these bad boys!

For the love of…Caviar

So since we’re on the roll of showing you guys some bright and outrageous trends of the spring and summer, we figured we’d share one of the most recent; the caviar manicure. Now we know what you may be thinking, fish eggs?! nails?!

Featured: Ciate Caviar Mani Kit

The caviar mani is named because it is a process of polishing your nails and adding micro-beads to your wet nail, thus giving the appearance of a caviar, textured layer across your nails.

Currently, the caviar nail kits run for around $25 and was brought to Sephora last month, however, they’ve run low on stock and it’s become quite hard to find.

Because we love our blog followers, we’ve decided to share a little secret with you guys on how to DIY caviar mani for a fraction of the price!

All you’ll need:

* Martha Stewart Microbeads (can be found at your local Michael’s Craft) — there is also a brand called “Reflections” which has these microbeads as well!

* Your favorite colored polish — either a complimenting color, matching color, or something completely random depending on the look you’re going for

* Clear Top coat

* A tray/bowl- to catch the excess beads

The process is simple:

Please note, for this caviar method, you will do each nail through the process one at a time.

1st: Place one coat of colored polish on all ten of your fingers. This will serve as a base coat for your second coat of color

2nd: One finger at a time, polish a second coat of polish.

3rd: On that same polished finger, hold it over the tray or bowl and gently sprinkle and coat the nail with microbeads.

4th: After coating nail with beads, gently push down on the beads to form a uniform and flattened surface and to ensure a better stick of the beads to the nail.

5th: Take a top coat and simply add it to just the tip/edge of the top of your nail to prevent chipping.

6th: Repeat for the rest of your fingers!

Voila! You have an expensive looking but cheap caviar mani! :)

Be sure to pour the excess beads from the bowl back into your container to use again. You can also use the caviar mani to accent your current manicure by doing it to your ring finger on each hand.

We love this trend :)
