For the love of…Caviar

So since we’re on the roll of showing you guys some bright and outrageous trends of the spring and summer, we figured we’d share one of the most recent; the caviar manicure. Now we know what you may be thinking, fish eggs?! nails?!

Featured: Ciate Caviar Mani Kit

The caviar mani is named because it is a process of polishing your nails and adding micro-beads to your wet nail, thus giving the appearance of a caviar, textured layer across your nails.

Currently, the caviar nail kits run for around $25 and was brought to Sephora last month, however, they’ve run low on stock and it’s become quite hard to find.

Because we love our blog followers, we’ve decided to share a little secret with you guys on how to DIY caviar mani for a fraction of the price!

All you’ll need:

* Martha Stewart Microbeads (can be found at your local Michael’s Craft) — there is also a brand called “Reflections” which has these microbeads as well!

* Your favorite colored polish — either a complimenting color, matching color, or something completely random depending on the look you’re going for

* Clear Top coat

* A tray/bowl- to catch the excess beads

The process is simple:

Please note, for this caviar method, you will do each nail through the process one at a time.

1st: Place one coat of colored polish on all ten of your fingers. This will serve as a base coat for your second coat of color

2nd: One finger at a time, polish a second coat of polish.

3rd: On that same polished finger, hold it over the tray or bowl and gently sprinkle and coat the nail with microbeads.

4th: After coating nail with beads, gently push down on the beads to form a uniform and flattened surface and to ensure a better stick of the beads to the nail.

5th: Take a top coat and simply add it to just the tip/edge of the top of your nail to prevent chipping.

6th: Repeat for the rest of your fingers!

Voila! You have an expensive looking but cheap caviar mani! :)

Be sure to pour the excess beads from the bowl back into your container to use again. You can also use the caviar mani to accent your current manicure by doing it to your ring finger on each hand.

We love this trend :)

Airbrush Makeup

Truth be told, I hated airbrush when I first started..yes, HATED! Years and several classes later (after testing out multiple companies’ products), I learned to retrain my eye in this new medium. I found my groove, favorite product and I am now BEYOND OBSESSED! It is AHHHMAZZING :) So let me tell you a little story about airbrush makeup. What exactly is airbrush makeup?? This may be a top question in the Parlour, so here are the facts… Everyone seems to think it is the latest and the greatest..well it really is , BUT it has been around for quite some time now. Airbrush makeup  was actually started back in the late 1800′s  (pre-photoshop life) but it has evolved quite a bit since then. Why is it so popular now? The high-definition world has now reached the consumer market, and therefore traditional makeup techniques were forced to evolve overnight. HD Lens can literally detect every line and freckle. So that pound of foundation and bronzer you have on, AH, not going to fly! The more pixels the camera lens has means the sharper the picture will be (airbrush makeup means less photoshopping later) . It also means that you will looking flawless on your friends camera phone when she instantly uploads your pic to Facebook, tumblr, or instagram. We  needed a makeup that did not sit in the lines and was able to sustain all external factors throughout the day less touch ups+ perfect color matching = ZERO build up of color on the skin There was a need for makeup to look less “made-up” . So good by to that line of demarcation on your jawline YOU are now flawless naturally  (wink wink ) So now your skin looks amazing as the lovely Emma Stone. Thank you technology!

Emma Stone Makeup

Okay back to the fundamentals….A professional airbrushing makeup artist will come to your event/wedding with a compressor and a makeup gun  in hand.

The one shown here we use at the Parlour from Temptu Pro

The makeup comes in liquid form. A few drops are added to the gun where it is then compressed through the gun with a flow of  air. The air pressure is measured in what is called the psi (pounds per square inch). A trained airbrush artist will know how to adjust the psi level for each part of the body. This is important because you will need a higher psi for the body than the eyelid, you do not want to push the makeup into skin. Now the few drops of liquid makeup are  pressed through the gun with an evenly distributed fine mist of product controlled completely by one finger (the trigger finger) IF now I say IF it is down correctly you should not be able to see the makeup on the skin. The makeup “sits on” top of your skin still allowing it to breath and looking completely flawless! But, again here is the but  these are some things to consider

  • If your skin is dry like any other foundation it will be visible to they eye

Here are some factors that come along with air brushing that would come into play if you were using a traditional foundation as well.

Taking proper care of your skin can only enhance any foundation you use on your skin. We will get to proper skincare in another blog entry. Now that we have briefed you on the history of the airbrush as well as how it is applied..Here are the facts!  Now this is based on the Temptu Pro  product we use in our beauty parlour for weddings/special events.  There a so many other fabulous airbrush products and different types of formulations for specific needs, but this is what we use, are trained in extensively and love more than anything!

  • Non transferable (will not rub off on your dress or your groom)
  • Seamless, Flawless and undetectable  when performed by our artists which means flawless face on every camera lens not just your wedding photographer
  • Long wearing, no need to power that nose 3 hours later!
  • Lightwieght texture (airbrush does not mean a MASK of makeup)
  • Sanitary Although we thoroughly clean each and every brush after it is used on every client and then we give our brushes a bubble bath after every day then we disinfect!  some artists  may not….making airbrush the ideal choice if you are concerned with sanitary practices but if you have booked us or you are going to fear not we use Beauty So Clean , 99% alcohol and we NEVER NEVER double DIP! Double Dipping is gross and icky!
  • Tear, sweat, and streak proof
  • Hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic (will not clog your pores)
  • One of my favorites! We can create your perfect custom color!!! yes perfect :) So if your forehead and chin are always a different color well that will not happen on my watch!

Now that you know the facts! We will brag just a bit…. Jennie Kay is a Advanced Temptu Pro trained artist. She has training in advanced beauty techniques (yes she can airbrush your eye makeup on flawlessly (she is that good!) as well as special effects makeup.

Blowdryers…quick and simple

I often get asked the question what blowdryer should I buy???? Here is a quick rundown
First we want to consider all the important functions your blowdryer should have…..

WATTS

  • the higher the wattage the powerful the dryer…. MEANING the more heat that flows though therefor the LESS time you spend drying your hair in the morning!

So if you want to shorten your drying  time don’t waste your money on anything below 1700 watts…if you have very thick I hair I would recommend higher

WEIGHT

  • I want something lightweight and easy to handle because it takes me so long to dry my HAIR!! grrrrr

AIRFLOW

  • Make sure the dryer comes with a nozzle to direct the flow of the air
  • Make sure it has a diffuser attachment for the curls

HEAT SETTINGS

  • Does the dryer have a cool button???? What do you use this for….it is great on a hot day…or a great way to set a curl by “freezing” the style, we will do another post on how to do this… You want your dryer to have different heat settings, not everyone needs to dry on the highest setting….fragile hair people keep the heat low
This sums up the important stuff…happy dryer hunting

Curling Irons vs Curling Rods

Professional Tools  = Hot, Sexy, HEALTHY Beautiful Hair :) There will be no frying of the hair in my chair

Curling Rod is a clipless iron that creates a more beachy, soft wavy style also know as “lived in hair” or “bed head”  whether the waves are large or  small  depends on the size of the curling rod …yes size does matter (enzo milano are my FAVS)

Marcel Curling Irons are what I prefer for a traditional curling tool (ahem… I mean it is the tool for the professional ) They heat up quickly and evenly unlike like the spring curling irons you may have in your home..this iron is AHHHmazing for so many different reasons

the 1″ size barrel is a must have…the style of curl  you can achieve with this tool is endless …soft romantic curls, a nice bend to the ends of the hair, or the most requested kardashian curl style…yup this tool can do it all!

Makeup Primers = Flawless Skin

I often get asked the question is it necessary to prime you skin before makeup, or why do you prime you skin before putting on makeup? The answer is simple YES!!! No matter how much makeup you apply to your skin you should always always  PRIME!

We prime our skin for the same reason we prime our walls before painting…we want an even canvas to begin our masterpiece on. We  want to fill in those fine lines, or hydrate those dry patches of skin. By making the skin all the same texture and preventing our makeup from shifting and creasing throughout the day we are priming for LONGEVITY and consistency of product!!! Yes primer can extend the life of your makeup through out the day (perfect for my brides to be)

Now when we start looking for a primer there are many options out there so where do we begin??????

Do we want to correct, hydrate, or are we more concerned with brightening anti aging properties….

This is where you need to decide what is best for your skin type, and what your looking for as an end result.

First what texture product do you like creams, gels, lotions, balms, etc

Think of it this way creams will blend into the face very easily and moisturize your thirsty skin, gels are fabulous for their ability to reduce shine on the face while leaving behind a silky smooth feel to the skin, lotions will absorb into the skin faster than a cream but slower than a gel also hydrate without being too heavy on the skin (sometimes a cream can feel heavy on certain skin types I like a lotion in the summertime)

Now that you know have an idea of what you are looking for ….here are a few that are my favorites for you to try!

Makeup Forever HD Primer in Green or Clear

The MUFE primer is oil free and safe for all skin types! It is very hard to find a product that has a one size fits all category.  The green primer is an amazing corrective primer that works to cancel out any redness you may have  without giving your skin a look Shrek would love. Apply this primer before applying anything else to your skin. Trust me your pores will love it!

Stila one Step Correct

This is my most recent discovery and I must say it was love at first site. I am a sucker for time saving concepts and packaging. I love multiple use products!  Primer, Color Corrector, Brightening and Anti Aging Product in ONE! The texture is amazing and it has a bit of a cooling feel when applied to the skin, which I love! I really do find that it it keeps the makeup in place and it  leaves the skin silky smooth all day. Now the 3 color do have a purpose …..

Green is to neutralzie any redness and breakouts on the skin, Purple is correct any sallow undertones your skin may have (think of a yellowish complexion), peach counteracts blue undertones brightening undereyes and illuminating the skin.

Lorac Aqua Primer

This primer I bought when my skin was starving for moisture!  It is oil free, silicone free and paraben free primer.

I tried it on the back of my hand in the store and instantly my skin looked 100x better! The formulas is great! The light weight gel texture  is  fabulous on sensitive skin. This waterbased primer contains Sodium Hyalaurante  which is what helps it to rehydrate the skin. Also know as hylauronic acid  which has been know for it ability to help the skin retain it’s own moisture and its use in treatments for fine lines and wrinkles.  Big plus is the drying time is almost instant!

Must have Monday! as in your should have had this yesterday

Every Monday we will now be posting your beauty product MUST HAVE!!

This week my must have is you must have an EYELASH CURLER in your makeup bag!

Eyelash curlers can make a world of a difference when they are used properly.

the tighter the curler the better and make sure you curl then put on mascara! If you apply your mascara and then curl you have a good chance of pulling some eyelashes out.

Step 1 take your blow dry and heat up the eyelash curler  while it is open (this will help set the curl like a curling iron would to your hair)

Step 2 Curl you lashes closes to the root and hold for 3 seconds

Step 3 walk the curler out a bit and hold again for 3 seconds

Step 4 lastly walk the curler out to the ends of your lashes and hold for 3 seconds

NOW apply your favorite Mascara and wallah you have fabulous looking curled lashes!

****now we walk out the eyelash curler as apposed to just curling once at the root because it looks more natural to have a gradual bend as opposed to having one big crease in your lashes
