Obsessed with TOO FACED!

For those of you that know me in the flesh. I am very pale, NC20 in MAC makeup talk of  to be exact. While I do love to be pale as I am always out and about never laying there baking in the sun (not my idea of fun) I wear SPF 30 on my face every day all year round. I do love to dabble in some bronzing powder for the summer. Lately I have been in love with Too Faced Cosmetics! I cannot get enough of their bronzers, mascaras, primers….you name it they have got it! Now lets be honest. As a makeup artist I always shied away from this product line when  I walked the aisles of Sephora. I thought it was “too young” for me and this wasn’t a makeup for a professional makeup artist. WELL I could not have been farther from WRONG. Now about half the products in my makeup bag are Too Faced . Everything I have tried from them has now replaced a product I once loved. Now what are they? Lets get to it…

My Loves…

1. Aqua Bunny Bronzer

Texture is a cream to powder. What i love about this bronzer is I can wear it with or without a base (foundation, tinted moisturizer, etc…) It is a very blend-able movable cream that give a nice healthy glow. The best part is it SETS! This product is not going to move! It is also layerable..meaning you want to be darker…well then add more.

*** brush it comes with is pretty amazing so just toss this in your beach bag this product is not moving so you can go in and out of the water and you will still look GORG!

2. Better Than False Lashes Mascara

The title says it all. This 3 step mascara is not only better than False Lashes but you know the corners wont lift on these lashes and this is much faster than putting some lashes on. Al you do is Prime with the base coat that helps the fibers adhere to your lashes in step 2 , these nylon fibers lengthen and thicken my lashes and and and they stay up and out of my eyes ( my lashes sometimes go back to pointing in my eyeballs without a good mascara) Step 3 you seal the fibers in. I like to apply 2-3 coats here. Honestly you will not believe how amazing your lashes look. They will stay full and curled all night! BEST PRODUCT OF THE YEAR!

**** Make sure you are careful after apply if your lashes are still wet and you touch them they may stick together

3. Chocolate Soleil Matte bronzing Powder in Milk Chocolate

I know …your thinking too bronzers right? Yes I love them both equally for different reasons.

  1. It smells like chocolate… really it does
  2. It is matte! I love this because I can contour my face and it looks natural. I not shimmering like a stripper on stage.
  3. There is not one tiny bit of orange in the bronzer. In fact I used to used a very old beauty powder from MAC and this is obviously the new replacement. Orange you glad this bronzer isn’t orange. oh good me too!
  4. natural natural natural…On my own face I tend to be the no makeup…makeup girl. This is how I like it and this product does the trick!

*** if i use Aqua Bunny and Milk Chocolate together i use the Aqua first. I let it dry and do my eye makeup then I go in at the end and I contour my cheeks with the Milk Chocolate with an angled blush brush

4. Shadow Insurance

Hands Down BEST BEST eyeshadow primer out there. I prime my eyelids and I prime under my concealer so it stays put all day. Now let me tell you tried and tested from a good friend of mine. She walks into my Beauty Parlour one day with neon green eyelids…hmm i thought (shes a makeup artist too) this is a different look for her. She then tells me as she is looking in the mirror I am testing two primers out. Which lid is brighter? I pointed to one she said I knew it. Again Shadow Insurance beats them all. Naturally I pulled the tube I had in the drawer test out this product out. Um ya she was right. It has outlasted several of it competitors.

  1. Better color payoff
  2. Longevity of your shadows (crease & fade proof rem ol’ green lids)
  3. Brightens and smooths lid if worn alone***I love to use this before my concealer to help it last longer. So when you apply it make sure you apply before face makeup and go right under your eyes as well :)

5. Perfect Eyes Waterproof and tear Proof Eyeliner in Perfect Purple

First off lets talk about this color purple. The swatch on Too Faced is a bit more purple than real life. The color is perfect. Being a mother of a 15 month yr old I naturally have bags under my eyes. What I love about this color purple that it does not enhance the bags and make me look like I have 2 black eyes. It is just enough to give these ol’ brown eyes a boost to look  a slight bit hazel (that’s what us brown eyed beauties love) The pencil eyeliner is great  it glides on smooth there is no skipping on the lash-line like some pencil that are too dry can do.  The opposite  end of the pencil is an angled sponge applicator to smudge the line to give you a nice buffed look on the lash line. One thing that does bug me is the packaging, the quality of the product is there. But after I open the pencil I like to put the top on the opposite end so I don’t lose it.  I cannot seem to muscle it on there. This eyeliner will stay in your inner rim and will no rub off under your eyes throughout the night. This is great for any event that is going to be all day…like your Wedding Day!

Let me know your favorite Too faced Products!

Breaking: Top Coat News

For all of you nail-polishaholics out there, you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the treat OPI is providing this Fall. The company is featuring a special James Bond Collection, featuring hues and shades inspired by the classic films. What we’re most impressed about, however, is the amazing top coat they’ve created for this collection.

Photo Cred: OPI Facebook page

A special edition top coat containing 18K gold flecks called “Man with a golden Gun”. The bottle itself is grin worthy, an opaque metallic gold color. Sure it’ll cost you a bit, at $30, however, the effect it gives your nails and the glam factor is pretty neat.

Would you dish out $30 for this OPI limited edition polish?!

Taking Care of Yourself

Hello everyone! Thank you for reading and following my blog. I really am lucky to have a job where I love what I do! With that said, I took some JK time yesterday, and it has never felt so good. I went to a heated power hour yoga class at Tenth Gate Yoga….There better be a spot for me next week now that I told you my favorite class! All jokes aside… the class was amazing! The heat was just right, it wasn’t too hot (I hate working out when it is too hot) and the instructor was awesome! I felt like a MILLION bucks when I left there. I was so glad I took time out of my busy schedule at The Beauty Parlour and with my little nugget ‘B’ to take care of myself.  My next class is going to be Paddle board yoga! I mean I have had a paddle board for 2+ years I think it may be time to actually try it out!

If you haven’t yet, be sure to visit Tenth Gate in Portsmouth, RI. It’s an amazing atmosphere, clean, relaxing, and quiet. Beauty isn’t only about the outside, remember to take care of yourself from the inside out.

NAMASTE!

In the Beauty Parlour Chair with Jennie Kay

Q: You have a love of style & beauty, when did you decide you wanted to break into the industry?

Jennie Kay: When I was little, I used to always do fashions shows after I did people’s hair and makeup in my house!

Q: What has been the most challenging aspect of starting up your successful business?

JK: Definitely learning to manage people! Doing the reception work, trying to make enough time to do everything — emails, bookings, making time no matter what to have them in the chair to actually do their hair or makeup, plus everything else in between.

Q: What is your favorite part about working weddings?

JK: Hmm… I like when I get to see the groom’s face when he sees his bride for the first time, I really like that.

Q: Do you have a secret for success?

JK: To keep on working, even when you feel like you can’t…. and having my brain, that is my secret for success! haha ;)

Q: What is your favorite iconic hairstyle?

JK: I love Farrah Fawcett’s hair (who doesn’t), and Veronica Lake. Probably Veronica Lake though– I love the classic look of brushed out finger waves it’s so pretty. Their very different looks.

Q: Do you have a favorite era for hair, beauty and fashion?

JK: I love the twenties hair and makeup– finger waves! Plus the fashion if the twenties was amazing — flappers and sparkles and jewelery. Fashion of the seventies was so fun also, I feel like wear my own version of seventies styles now.

Q: What makes Jennie Kay a Beauty Parlour Unique?

JK:  You are one on one with me everytime you are in my chair, and no one else is in the salon. The phone isn’t ringing, it’s peaceful and you’re the center of my attention. You’re always dealing with me and my expertise, not other stylists.

Q: You’ve been working on a makeup line, what is your favorite part about creating this?

JK: Picking the colors definitely, playing around with the different textures, and seeing my name on a product. I will only use something that I really love and if I believe it works. My new foundations are great, they’re probably my favorite of the line so far.

Q: You’ve worked with celebrities, who has been your favorite and most fun to work with to date?

JK: So far, probably Holly Valance. It was just her and I and she was super nice to chat and work with.

Q: What is your favorite look of the moment so far in 2012?

JK: The hair you would normally call mousey toned paired with pastel colors to brighten the look. I love all the nail trends – nails have become so fun I am always trying new looks on my nails. It seems as if there is a new nail craft every week. I have clients who love to have this look. I love to use Schwarzkopf colors for this look!

Q: What is a goal you hope to reach by the end of 2012?

JK: It’s a secret I can’t tell! You’ll soon find out!

Q: What trends have you tried or invented this year?

JK: A lot of pastel ombré hair, neon colors with neutrals, color blocking outfits and hair. Caviar nails! Studding my outfits, embellished collars– I just bought a leopard collared blouse I love it.

Q: Do you have a makeup or hair item/brand that you’ve used or stuck with forever?

JK: I’ve used Makeup Forever brand, forever! I’ve used my hot tool Marcel curling irons forever, and batiste dry shampoo for around ten years.  My secret bobby pins, they’re my favorite no one knows where I get them ! And Schwarzkopf products have been a go to of mine in the salon to use on clients and myself!

Summer Makeup

Just as you would with your summer ensembles, lighten up your face makeup as well! As we trot around in linen skirts, flowy blouses, and flip flops, give your face a break and allow your natural sun kissed cheeks to show through.

Tinted moisturizers are always a great go-to, as they provide moisture (some even SPF protection) and a subtle coverage to camouflage imperfections and redness. Here are some simple summer makeup rules to go by during the summer months:

  • A peach or salmon hued blush looks great on all skin tones to provide a fresh-off-the-beach look. Cream blushes can also add a dewy and fresh enhancement.
  • Add a coat of mascara! Mascara is one of those items that girls simply cannot live without. They add an instant open feature to your face, providing a polished look to your eyes and lashes.
  • White or shimmer liner added at the corners of your eyes instantly makes you look more awake and refreshed by making the whites of your eyes seem clearer.
  • Don’t forget your brows! — brow pencils and mascaras can give your brows an instant makeover, providing a fuller and more even appearance. Already have full brows? Try a clear gel to provide a manicured look.
  • Lastly! Lips! Swipe over a nude or pink toned gloss (Jennie Kay Beauty Glosses are AMAZING may we add ;) )
