The Ponytail

I have been getting so many requests on some quick and easy styles to do yourself for an event. A very simple and often overlooked style is the PONYTAIL. Ponytails have been really making a big comeback on the Red Carpet, and on several of my brides this coming season. Who would thought the way you normally throw you hair up to go to the gym could actually be an elegant style??? Well it can with the right tools and techniques.

Let’s break it down … This is how to ‘Pony’

Step 1: Apply a bit of product to your hands  to control frizz and flyaway hairs (a pomade will do just fine)

Step 2: Keep your hand in the same place on the back of your head and comb all hair backwards to meet that hand. DONT MOVE YOUR HAND !

Step 3: Secure with a hair band

Step 4: Next…Now this is where you can add something fun, a bright string or ribbon to match your dress…Dab some pomade on your fingertips, take a small piece of hair and wrap it around the elastic to hide the band. Then secure the piece of hair with a pin…and voila! You have a neat and simple pony!

Now that you can pony…here are the types of ponys you can create:

High pony
Mid pony
Low pony

Now if you want to get WiLD and KraZy (yes with a K)
then you can change it up; add a side part, center part, or do a side pony.

Happy Ponying! please send some pics of your best and favorite ponytails :)

Bliss Celebrations Launch

This past Thursday night, the Beauty Parlour team attended the launch of Bliss Celebration’s 2nd issue. The event was located at the Providence Public library. The library was transformed into a glamourous space; a purple and blue glow lit up the room, with seemingly stenciled designs and shadows projected across the ceilings and walls. Orchids, florals, and jewels were placed on complimenting decorative cocktail tables. Naturally, gourmet appetizers lined the bookshelves. We met new friends and reconnected with familiar faces. It was an excellent night! Be sure to pick up a copy, and keep a eye out for our ad on page 206 of the issue :) .

All That Glitters is Rosegold

A style we’re seeing on the runways this winter and into the spring is the color trend and tones of rose gold. Not only is the color prominent in the fashion industry, it has now made its way into the hair industry. First came feather extensions, then came glittery tinsel extensions, then came dip-dying various colors and spectrums, and now we are seeing girls everywhere incorporate a rose gold tint into their manes and it looks nothing short of stunning. Rose gold is being used in accessories, shoes, accents such as hardware. Somewhere amongt the family of strawberry blondes, brunettes, and redheads, the amazing aspect of this copper color is that it is easily mixed with the other metals. Rose gold extensions, and rose gold tinting in hair is a fun way to add a subtle or drastic look to one’s hair, whether you are a cool blonde, a deep red, or a chocolate brunette, the tones blend amazingly. The color looks great on virtually everyone, and it is the perfect balance of fun and bold for your hair.

A high fashion version of the style

This color has easily blended into daily style, fashion, and accessories with the versatility it holds in the ability to be worn in a casual or dressy, chic or funky way. Here are some other ways rose gold is making its presence known in fashion and beauty:

Matching Bridal Hair

There is something to be said for the elegance that can be created with coordinating matching hairstyles for your bridal party. A step away from the norm, I came across a gorgeous wedding in Town and Country Wedding magazine which solidified my love for this look. If done correctly, can create an amazing, chic, and uniform bridal party. Most may shy away from this idea. I think the key is to create a balance in varying the styles of bridesmaid dresses which ties the look together. This look is most effective if you choose a simple, sleek hairstyle, as opposed to a tousled or wavy look. A look as simple and chic as the a classic bun can put emphasis on the pretty details of the wedding while making creating a clean and uniform look.

Emilia Wickstead's Bridal Party. Ballerina Buns for all.

The bride in Town & Country chose champagne colored gowns, all of which were varied silhouettes and flattering styles. This simple color palate and smooth top, low at the neck buns created an elegant and gorgeous wedding!

Dare to Wear Pink & Red

I have a Crush on Pink and Red!
Color blocking is a recurring trend that has made it’s way back onto the Spring 2012 runways. As you peer into your closet for something to wear tomorrow morning… think loud! Grab striking colors that you would not normally pair together, the louder the better. Retire your black tee and pair of jeans for a bit, I am all about pairing the bold and brights together.

So you like this idea of color blocking but you really are not sure where to start? Here’s how to begin…

Three  simple ways you can color block:

  1. Monochromatic color blocking: you choose the same color for your whole outfit, except vary the hues
  2. Bold color blocking separates: for example, a pink top paired with red bottoms…throw in a bold clutch and you’re golden.
  3. Buy a pre color blocked outfit ;) …by the designer

Here are a few simple color blocking examples:

Being a hairstylist, I feel the need to show you how this trend is relevant in the world of hair. Color blocking hair you say?? My preference would be a monochromatic theme. But here are a few pictures of how the trend carries over into the beauty world ;)

Happy Color Blocking!
Please post your favorite color combinations below :)
