The Beauty Parlour had an amazing chance to chat with actress Cameron Goodman. She is recognizable for her roles in numerous films and TV shows, including the hit series 90210,  and countless other productions. Cameron and I met  on the set of Shuttle back in 2007. For the love of…Caviar

So since we’re on the roll of showing you guys some bright and outrageous trends of the spring and summer, we figured we’d share one of the most recent; the caviar manicure. Now we know what you may be thinking, fish eggs?! nails?!

Featured: Ciate Caviar Mani Kit

The caviar mani is named because it is a process of polishing your nails and adding micro-beads to your wet nail, thus giving the appearance of a caviar, textured layer across your nails.

Currently, the caviar nail kits run for around $25 and was brought to Sephora last month, however, they’ve run low on stock and it’s become quite hard to find.

Because we love our blog followers, we’ve decided to share a little secret with you guys on how to DIY caviar mani for a fraction of the price!

All you’ll need:

* Martha Stewart Microbeads (can be found at your local Michael’s Craft) — there is also a brand called “Reflections” which has these microbeads as well!

* Your favorite colored polish — either a complimenting color, matching color, or something completely random depending on the look you’re going for

* Clear Top coat

* A tray/bowl- to catch the excess beads

The process is simple:

Please note, for this caviar method, you will do each nail through the process one at a time.

1st: Place one coat of colored polish on all ten of your fingers. This will serve as a base coat for your second coat of color

2nd: One finger at a time, polish a second coat of polish.

3rd: On that same polished finger, hold it over the tray or bowl and gently sprinkle and coat the nail with microbeads.

4th: After coating nail with beads, gently push down on the beads to form a uniform and flattened surface and to ensure a better stick of the beads to the nail.

5th: Take a top coat and simply add it to just the tip/edge of the top of your nail to prevent chipping.

6th: Repeat for the rest of your fingers!

Voila! You have an expensive looking but cheap caviar mani! :)

Be sure to pour the excess beads from the bowl back into your container to use again. You can also use the caviar mani to accent your current manicure by doing it to your ring finger on each hand.

We love this trend :)

Dip Dyed Fashion?!

To follow up with the recent ombre and dip dyed hair trend, we are seeing more of this trend in fashion as well.

Think dip-dyed clothing, and manicures. Slightly reminiscent of acid-wash jeans of the 80s…with a modern, punk-glam, or even chic look.

Some more drastic than others…

Would you incorporate a dip dyed piece into your closet or your manicure regimen??

Dip Dying & Colored Ombre

Okay so we may have discussed this before, however, it seems to be coming up a lot in magazines and websites; the craze for dip-dying hair and rainbow colored ombre hair.

Think my little pony meets modern, chic, fashionista!

Cotton candy, pastels, and vibrant and bold rainbow tones…possibilities are endless.

There are subtle or vibrant ways to embrace this trend, one that could easily be hidden by tucking hair into a bun at work, or a simple trim could remove unwanted color. At the beauty parlour, we have dip-dyed extensions as a lasting but not-permanant alternative. There are also semi-permanant or wash-out treatments being offered as well.

We are loving this colored trend, what do you guys think!?

Jennie Kay’s Style File

I had the pleasure to collaborate with one of my besties Erin McGinn. The fabulous photographer, writer, stylist, & editor of the amazing Bliss Publications. Erin and I came up with a concept for my traveling beauty chair. It really came naturally to us. Erin said “hey can I take a few pics of you? I have an idea”, of course I said “yes can I bring my hair chair everywhere we go??” Erin laughed and said “yes, you can say ‘my chair goes everywhere!’” There you have it, my traveling beauty chair went from the private dock on bowens wharf, to Easton’s beach, to Sweet Berry Farm … my chair travels everywhere!

My favorite part of the day was when we set up camp in the wharf outside The Clark Cook House a woman started clapping and said yaaa! we are going to have a performance, and then she asked if I wanted to “borrow” her dog… Seriously there is never a dull moment when Erin and I get together!

Erin and I really love the hunt, that is the hunt for a great prices and a unique find. We are sequin hunters, TJ Maxx stalkers, and vintage store hoarders.

Fashion: Inspiration Brighter the better and colorblocking

Chair: Jennie Kay Beauty Traveling Chair

Orange Dress: Tj Maxx
Hat: TjMaxx
Skinny Belt:  Jcrew Outlet
Blue High Heels from DSW: Seychelles

For our first shoot. I went a bit natural. My hair was colored with a ombre effect. If you are unsure what ombre is I do it here at the beauty parlour and you can read about it here on my blog. I then went it with my favorite waving iron to create an effortless beachy tossled wave. (I waved my hair away from my face) Yes effortless quick hair! p.s. feathers were in when we shot this and yes I fully embraced the fad and I admit I miss them. They were so pretty! Check out my hair  below

Jennie Kay Hair:

Step 1: Split hair down the middle for a center part.

Step2: Grab you Curling Rod which you check out here if you do not have one to see my fav

Step 3: Section you hair into 3 sections and clip each section out of the way. This is so you make sure you don’t miss any hairs (section in layers and think of a tiered cake; top section, middle section, and bottom section)

Step 4: Wave the hair with the first wrap around the iron away from your face. Continue throughout your whole head

Step 5: Spray with A light hairspray Osis Elastic Fix then cocktail Osis Dust it an Osis 4-play mix both between hands start at the nape of your neck and finger through hair

Makeup Makeup Makeu: Now if I haven’t mentioned this shot was for my ads in some publications. I wanted the pictures to really look like me. I love natural makeup, its just my thing, so the makeup I used was very clean and simple.

Step 1: Moisturize!!

Step 2: You can do this in your car like me :)

Step 3: Conceal under eyes and Blemish with Cargo Cosmetics One base concealor + foundation in one (must have!)

Step 4: Too Face Aqua Bunny Bronzer is applied all over the face you can see my video here on how to apply bronzer

Step 5:Makeup Forever Uplight  is your highligher you want to place that on high points of your face also in video here

Step 6: Apply Stila Prime Pot taffy all over lid (use finger works great less is more!) An dab some Stila Kitten eyeshadow on the lid over the taffy (not shown in pic)

Balayage & Ombre

Though it’s not a new trend, we have received a lot of requests by our clients to talk about this recurring technique. Balayage and Ombre highlights are a great way to achieve an effortless and tousled look.  The Ombre technique typically features a darker, thicker root, with a lighter colored end. The Balayage technique is a chunkier, all over beachy look. Are you a low-maintenance hair kind of girl? This coloring could be the perfect fit for you.

It is bohemian-chic, that appears to have a natural and controlled grown-out look. Celebrities such as Jessica Biel, Hillary Duff, Whitney Port, Giselle Bunchden, Jennifer Aniston, and more. The color is painted on by hand, giving it a natural look with a pop of color at the ends surrounding the face. The beauty of balayage is that it is customized to each person, their hair, and face shape, so no one person has the same look as another.

Lucky for you girls, we happen to do balayage and ombre techniques here at Jennie Kay a Beauty Parlour!

Call the beauty parlour or visit our website www.jenniekaybeauty.com to book your next ombre/balayage appointment!
